I completed the Reiki Level 1 and 2 classes with Kay Lowell at the Spiritual Health and Wellness Center.  Kay is a skilled teacher with a warm personality and great sense of humor.  Her teaching style and the format of the classes are engaging, fun, and easy to follow. I enjoyed learning about traditional as well as Western style Reiki.  Kay allowed me to ask as many questions as needed in order to understand the history, process, techniques, and tools.  In addition, the class packages include some very help manuals, which are now part of my Reiki home library. Kay also opens up intriguing dialogue in the classes to give her students an opportunity to share their perceptions and experiences with the healing power of Reiki.  Kay inspired me to continue learning about it after I left the class. I wanted to write this review for anyone who is looking for a Reiki class because I had a very positive experience and look forward to using all I've learned. Reiki has changed my life. I'm a school teacher, and Reiki is helping me to relieve stress both for myself and others in these highly stressful times in our public school system. Many thanks to Kay at the Spiritual Health and Wellness Center for all she taught me about this wonderful healing modality.

Certificates and Student Support
Upon completion of any class/workshop conducted by Gaia's Mystical Corner dba Spiritual Health and Wellness Center(Kay Lowell), students receive a Certificate of Completion.  And on-going support is given to our students when they take classes from us, because they can come back at any time to any class they have previously taken and successfully completed and sit in, at no additional charge.  All they have to do is bring their class materials and call us to let us know they want to attend a class as a refresher.
We also schedule Reiki/Reflexology/Acupressure Share groups for our students, so that they can talk with other people in the Reiki Community and share techniques and observations, as well as just being around good, positive, healing energy.

Class Descriptions:
What is GendaiTM Reiki-ho?

Gendai Reiki-ho is a trademarked form of reiki that was developed by Mr. Hiroshi Doi.  Mr. Doi has received training in Western Style reiki and is a member of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai (the original society in Japan) and he is the author of the book Iyashino Gendai Reiki-ho, which translates into Modern Reiki Method for Healing.  His school of Reiki is called Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai.  "Gendai" means modern, and "ho" means method, so Gendai Reiki-ho translates into Modern Reiki Method and is mainly a Japanese style of Reiki.

Gendai Reiki is based on methods used in the original reiki society (Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai), including older techniques which are no longer taught in Western Style Reiki classes.  Mr. Doi combines other concepts, techniques, and methods from other forms of Japanese Reiki, Western Reiki and other healing modalities he has studied and learned.  The material that is presented in these classes is specific about what is original Traditional Reiki, and what is not, so the student doesn't get confused.  Much of the philosophical concepts in the material are not part of Western Reiki and may interest those who already have Reiki Training.

Certified Gendai Reiki-ho Shihans (teachers) teach Gendai Reiki in 4 levels just like Mr. Doi, and they use translations of his original material.  The 4 levels are Shoden, Okuden, Shinpiden and Gokuikaiden, the latter being the master or teacher level.

Generally these classes are only offered to students who have already attained the Level 3/Master level from another teacher, and are taught as an addendum to their Reiki training.   Other Gendai classes assume that you are already familiar with Reiki concepts, have a working knowledge of Reiki, and have a lot of experience practicing reiki on yourself and others.  The classes that Spiritual, Health, and Wellness Center offers assumes that you have had no prior Reiki training, and more detail and practice is given in these classes and tend to last a full day rather than half a day.

Gendai Reiki 1 Beginner Shoden Level
This class is the first level of Usui Reiki Ryoho.
Shoden means "The Entrance, or first teachings", so the focus of this class is to help the student learn how to heal their own body.  The student is provided with a manual, on-line access to the correct Japanese pronunciations of the terms, written exercises to enhance personal and subtle energy development, the Shoden Level Reiju (3 or 4 attunements), and a Japanese Certificate of Completion.  3 books are also given to the student as part of the class to help them learn more about reiki.  They are The Hayashi Reiki Manual by Frank Arjava Petter, The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui by Frank Arjava Petter, and Reiki Fire, by Frank Arjava Petter. The students will learn the history of Reiki, the differences between western style and traditional style reiki, how energy systems work and how information is communicated.  Emphasis is placed on learning the 5 principles, or Gokai, and their use in every day life and how they can help us achieve happiness.  Japanese Techniques taught in the level include: Byosan Reikan-ho, Hibiki, Shudan Reiki, Tanden Chiryo-ho, Nentatsu-ho, Jakigirijoka-ho, Kenyoku-ho, Hikari no Kokyu-ho, and Gassho Kokyu-ho.The students will learn the basic hand positions to work on themselves, and will be shown how to work on others, although the emphasis of this class is on personal growth, development, and healing.  First the mind heals, then the body.   Class sizes are limited, and classes generally are held from 8:00 am to 5 pm.  Call to Schedule your class or check the Schedules Tab.
Gendai Reiki 2 Okuden Level
Gendai Reiki 1 is required before taking this class.  And in respect for Sensei Usui's 21 day meditation, we ask that students practice self-reiki and recite the Gokai twice daily for at least 21 days before taking this class.  This class is the second level of Usui Reiki Ryoho.  Okuden means "Inner Teachings", so the focus of this course is achieving a deeper understanding to Sensei Usui's teachings.  This is achieved by learning shirushi (symbols) and kotodama (mantras) as focusing tools. The student is provided with a manual,on-line access to the correct Japanese pronunciations of the terms, written exercises to enhance personal and energetic development, the Okuden Level Reiju, and a Japanese Certificate of Completion.  The students will learn more about the energy systems and how to heal on an emotional level, as well as sending energy long distance.  The students are given the book Reiki for The Heart and Soul by Amy Rowland.  The students are asked to read the book and complete the exercise and bring them with them to the Shinpiden Level.  This class will also prepare the student to become a professional Reiki Practitioner, should they choose. The students are introduced to appropriate ethical and hygienic practices.   Class sizes are limited, and are generally held from 8:00 am. to 5 pm.  Call to Schedule your Class or check the Schedules Tab.
Gendai Reiki 3 Advanced Shinpiden Level
Gendai Reiki 1 and Gendai Reiki 2 are required before taking this class.  In addition, the student must log 20 sessions and provide proof of working on other people or animals. It is recommended that the student wait at least 9 months to a year before taking this class, but it should be taken at the student's comfort level in working with energy.  This is the third level of Usui Reiki Ryoho.  Shinpiden means "Mystery Teachings", and this course deepens the student's journey toward self-discovery and healing, which continues long after the student has completed the Shinpiden Level.  Please note, this course does not teach the student how to teach others the Reiki Technique.  The student is provided with a manual, on-line access to correct Japanese pronunciations of the terms, written exercises to enhance personal and energetic development, the Shinpiden Level Reiju, shirushi, kotodoma, and a Japanese Certificate of Completion.  This class reviews the Gokai principles again in more detail as a tool to deepen self-discovery and healing.  The students will complete the exercises in the book Reiki for The Heart and Soul and complete a Reiki Gokai Vision Board to help them explore their own spiritual growth and development and explore what the Gokai principles mean to them.  Class size is limited, and generally lasts from 8:00 am to 5 pm.
Beginning Acupressure
This is an introductory level class and we will be discussing the history of acupressure and it's role as a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and concepts of male/female energy pathways, and what points to press to alleviate common symptoms, such as back and shoulder pain,  Depending on the number of students, this class can run anywhere from 4 to 6 hours.  A Certificate of Completion will be given at the end of the class.  The class generally runs from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Facial Acupressure/Aculift
This is a short, 4 hour workshop.  This course is designed to present a basic understanding of Acupressure, a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  Acupressure is the application of pressure on points that are located on energy channels which run throughout the entire body.  Facial Acupressure/Aculift targets 13 points on the face and neck which can help reduce stress, increase blood flow, and may reduce the appearance of fine lines.  Students will learn about the history of Acupressure, the Yin/Yang Theory, and The Meridian Energy System.  Acupressure is a holistic approach which can address all aspects of the body, mind, and spirit.  A Certificate of Completion will be given at the end of the class.

Reflexology
Reflexology is the use of thumb techniques and applying pressure to reflex points on the hands, feet, and ears.  Reflexology is similar to Zone Therapy, in that the hands, feet, and ears are divided into zones.  However, the parts of the body are superimposed on the feet, hands, and ears.  So, when someone applies pressure to the tips of your fingers or toes, they are also working on your sinuses.  Reflexology does not utilize lotions or oils while performing the treatment.  Reflexology is a technique you can learn to do on yourself, or for family members and friends.  We teach Reflexology in 4-hour sessions rather than 1 8-hour session so that students can spend more time learning the techniques.  By the end of the class, our goal is to help our students feel confident enough that they can begin using Reflexology on themselves on a daily basis.

Reflexology is not Acupressure, since reflexology does not focus on using the Meridian energy channels, but there is some similarity.

Color Energy/Therapy
This class is a short 2-hour class, which discusses how colors affect our moods in both positive and negative ways.  We will be talking about the chakra energy system, and how colors can affect these energy centers on a vibrational level, as well as discussing Aromatherapy oils and their vibrational levels.  Tips for incorporating color into your daily life to help re balance will be discussed, and Special Orders will be taken to purchase Color Energy products, should the participants want to purchase them.
